Gadget review- The iPad 2

So today I’ve just received my iPad 2 from Apple(the 64GB wifi only version). Gorgeous white with my name engraved on the back. Now the iPad is definitely heavier at 680g (wifi only) and 730g(wifi+3G) than its younger brother the iPad2 at 601g (wifi only) and 613g(wifi+3G).Not only that but the iPad2 is also much thinner than the iPad by about 5mm.

Processor for the iPad 2 1GHz dual-core A5 which would outperform the 1 GHz A4 processor in the iPad and based on the results from Geekbench, the iPad 2 beats the iPad and the iPhone 4. Also, according to Geekbench, there’s now 512 MB of RAM in the iPad2, which brings it to the level of the iPhone 4 in this aspect.

Both iPad and iPad 2 have a 3-axis accelerometer but the iPad 2 boasts the presence of a 3-axis gyroscope.The iPad two is supposed to have some sort of fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating but that didn’t stop the screen from proudly displaying my fingerprints. No my hand wasn’t dirty.

Now first thing I tried out was the new front camera via facetime with a friend and my god we both noticed how horrible the output is. Determined to get to the bottom of this we did a test. We took a photograph using the front and back cameras of the iPad 2 and compared the photos to those taken by the front and back of the iPhone 4 with HDR off). The results, iPhone 4 beats the iPad2 in both cameras.

So the camera isn’t as great as most would expect, but what about the music. Or more specifically, how music output would sound like. Played the song Better In Time as well as Colours of the Wind. Results being that it was very surprisingly nice. Even my friend commented on how beautiful the music sounded compared to what he expected. However if you’re working on GarageBand or trying to listen to music in a not so quiet place, its better to use headphones.

According to a test ran by Gizmodo, another reviewing website which did a review in a more detailed manner, the iPad 2 has a better battery life at 10 hours 26 minutes than the Motorola Xoom at 8 hours 20 minutes and the iPad at 9 hours and 33 minutes We would like to thank Gizmodo for their time carrying out their research and this paragraph will be removed should they ask for this to be removed.

So as I tested out the iPad 2 browser by going on to facebook, twitter and such, I noticed that it was at the very least as fast as the Motorola Xoom. Still Apple has decided to leave out Flash so users will have to cope with that.

Conclusively the best you can get in the market,and nearly unrivaled at all in every aspect.Congratulations to Apple on a job well done and hope they continue improve and supply quality products to the consumer market.
