To Perodua: I have tried to be fair and not one sided. As a customer I'm quite satisfied asides from the problem with auto fluid during my first service which was solved promptly and satisfactory. I hope this helps in some way
General Overview
The day to day driving
When driving this car day to day, one would notice that the engine is performing quite well. No, it does not accelerate like a BMW, but it does run quite smoothly. However with the air conditioning, you’ll hear a strange buzz like sound which has a pause in between but consistently sounding.
Speaking of the air conditioning, it actually works quite well in the morning and at night. If you’re a fan of really really cold temperatures, you won’t be satisfied but you’ll probably find it acceptable assuming its on maximum which is quite noisy mind you. In the very hot afternoons, its going to take a while to cool you down.
So the engine is not bad but what about acceleration. Well the pickup is not exactly awesome but it’ll do. You definitely won’t have a problem overtaking cars normally. However if you decide to have an impromptu race while driving ( Don’t do this on the roads), you’ll probably lose to a Hyundai i10 in terms of acceleration AND top speed by a little bit. So forget racing the BMW unless you’re not using a stock Myvi. Now that is a different story.
In regards to handling, I have to say its quite scary. When you turn hard enough, you’ll feel that the rear is wobbling and also you’d feel as though the car is running on two wheels (at the very least you’d feel the car is unstable). Furthermore, the car does quite badly against road bumps. Whereas any other car would go pass a bump smoothly, a Myvi driver must pass at a slower speed to pass smoothly. Otherwise, the bump is gonna feel hard. So driving, usually comfortable but not really at times.
One other thing I noticed is the gear change has a kind of lag. When you’re overtaking or accelerating on a empty long straight, you might notice the engine revving on and on but the gear is not changing yet. So that is one problem I noticed which may deter potential buyers. The stock tyres is another problem i would think ( or it could be some other factor). When you make a turn in mid valley, the tyres squeal as though you’re power sliding or drifting. Fun to listen to but surely not good for tyre wear and tear.
Now in regards to safety, its not really safe I would assume. The Myvi in my opinion is quite soft and seeing all the damaged Myvi being towed as I drive would clearly. Another contributing factor, you can’t really feel where’s the front end of the car. Seriously take a good look at most Myvis on the road. See how many of them have a ridiculous distance between their front bumper and the car in front. In this, a BMW 5 and 7 series would be much better because you can at least see where is the front end of your car.
Yes, the brakes. Another problem that is minor or major depending on viewpoint. See how most Myvi owners fail to brake exactly where they want to. On Malaysian roads, you’ll see Myvis slowing down and leaving a huge space between them and the car in front and have to move foward. Bad for fuel economy this is.
Now the Myvi has a average boot space in my opinion but smaller than the boot space of a Proton Saga or a Proton Wira. When going on a holiday with friends, We managed to fit quite the large amount of baggage in the back of a Myvi.
Okay, here's what most readers want to know. The fuel economy. No its not good at all. According to Asian Auto, the Myvi received this result.6.2 l/100km. Now you’ll probably say that’s not really bad. Well you’re wrong. The Mercedes-Benz E 200 CGI got this result.5.6 l/100km. .The Honda Freed, a compact MPV got this result.6.1 l/100km. We’d expect the Myvi to have better than the Merc and the Honda in terms of fuel economy but no. Its not as powerful nor as heavy but its the worse of the three in fuel economy.
When you’re reversing the car for whatever reasons, the sensors are quite reliable to some extent. When the sensors beep rapidly (stage 2 beep) there’s still space. The sensor also beeps randomly at times when reversing.
Now practically speaking, one Myvi driver mentioned to me that one bar of the full tank would probably get you from Brickfields to somewhere in Kajang. Now i haven’t tested this but i’ll let readers decide.
Conclusion
Do feel free to comment and provide your own opinion in regards to the Myvi. Constructive comments would be very much appricieated. Feel free to submit a review you want published to freereviewer47@hotmail.com. Any intention to make donations/ contributions is also welcomed can be emailed to freereviewer47@hotmail.com as well (CIMB bank). All contributions and donations would be used from various reasons for review purposes as well as for furthering my studies.I thank you for reading and hopefully I’ve helped .
General Overview
Alright, so this would be my first review and its going to about the common Perodua Myvi so if you want to stand out, the Myvi is not the car for you. The Myvi is the sixth car from Perodua. The Myvi is built as a city car just like its Daihatsu counterpart so its self explanatory where the car is built to be used.
For this review, we're going to use the 1.3 EZ Automatic costing about RM 46,400 to RM 47,300 as of August 2008 depending on the colour type and accessories etc. It has a fuel tank capacity of 40.0 Litres with ventilated front disk brakes and drum rear brakes (leading and trailing).
Now I have to agree with Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear UK by BBC when he did his review. However, he may have phrased it a bit harshly (but that is in the name of entertainment and a matter of opinion). So,the interior is cheap looking and also feels cheap and plasticy in my opinion. But considering the price we pay for the car, I don’t think that is much to complain about. The design is quite nice but quite flawed. The cup/bottle holder for instance, you probably won’t reach for a drink while the car is moving. Its just so far away and you’ll have to lean against the steering wheel. We’ll touch on the brakes a bit later. So, on with the review.

Conclusion
Honestly, if you want a cheap car, the Myvi is a good choice. However if you’re a fan of speeding, the Hyundai i10 would be more ideal as it has a slightly higher top speed and I believe that little bit is important to you. Furthermore, the Hyundai has a better fuel economy than the Myvi. Do note that the Myvi is considerable much better looking than the Hyundai and also much spacious.
So if you’re a regular city driver, the Myvi is a very good car. Overall I’d recommend it for beginning drivers especially. Hopefully Perodua will address these minor problems and be able to release a car which is that much closer to perfection.
